Kamukunji Families Receive Ramadan Relief in Sixth Annual Food Drive
Nairobi, Kenya — In a remarkable demonstration of community solidarity and compassion, 300 vulnerable Muslim families in Kamukunji Sub-county received essential food supplies during Ramadan through a collaborative initiative by the Property Developers Welfare Society of Nairobi and the Peace and Youth Awareness (PAY) Youth Group.
Food Aid Distribution: Supporting Families Through Ramadan
Each household was provided with a carefully assembled food package containing:
- 12 kilograms of wheat flour
- 10 kilograms each of maize flour, rice, and sugar
- 3 litres of vegetable cooking oil
These provisions are intended to support families throughout the holy month of fasting, ensuring that they have sufficient resources to prepare their iftar meals—the evening meal that breaks the fast daily.

Community Leadership and Involvement
This marks the sixth consecutive year of the Property Developers Welfare Society’s Ramadan food distribution program, which has become a beacon of hope for vulnerable households in the area. Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan attended the event as the chief guest, praising the unwavering commitment of the Society and encouraging other leaders and businesses to follow suit.
“We hope others will also learn from this and extend a helping hand to those in need. In Islam, those who are blessed with wealth have a duty to support their less fortunate brothers and sisters,” MP Hassan stated.
The Role of the Property Developers Welfare Society
Chairman Abdirahman Shibli expressed his gratitude to the Society’s members for their generous financial contributions, which made the distribution possible. He cited a well-known saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to emphasize the spiritual value of charity:
“Charity does not diminish wealth; rather, it increases it.”
He also described the rigorous process of identifying beneficiaries, which involves collaboration with local government officials, including Chiefs, the Assistant County Commissioner, Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and the MP’s office, ensuring transparency and fairness.
Beyond Charity: Infrastructure Development in Kamukunji
In addition to its humanitarian efforts, the Property Developers Welfare Society plays a vital role in supporting local development. California MCA Hashim Kamau highlighted how the Society stepped in to complete crucial road projects on Timboroa and Waudo Streets after official contractors failed to finish the work to standard.
Without the support of Property Developers, these roads would likely still be unfinished today,
Kamau remarked.
Ramadan: A Time for Compassion and Community
The 2025 Ramadan food drive exemplifies the spirit of giving, compassion, and unity that defines this sacred month. With Ramadan observed as a period of prayer, reflection, and charity, initiatives like this ensure that vulnerable families are cared for and empowered to focus on spiritual growth.
The food packages are expected to sustain the recipients until Ramadan concludes on March 30.
Join the Cause
This annual program demonstrates the power of collective action. Community members, business leaders, and organizations are invited to join hands to extend support to those in need and make lasting impacts throughout the year.
